Baby Goats 2026, Round 1!

Kidding season has begun! For some reason, we decided to breed 10 goats this year with the first 5 due in a 9 day window. Sawfish AS Porsche kicked things off on Friday afternoon (1 day early) with triplets (1 doe and 2 bucks) sired by Sawfish Crete. This is Porsche’s 3rd freshening and the first doe she has been willing to provide. Amanda has been waiting for a doe out of Porsche, so she will be retained. But what’s her name? If you have followed us in the past, we chose a theme every year for naming the goats. This year’s theme is alcohol. Porsche’s kids are Sawfish Guinness (doe), Sawfish Spiced Rum (buck), and Sawfish Moonshine (buck). Both bucks are available.

We expected to have a week before more kids hit the ground, however, during evening chores on Monday, we noticed CH Majenli LK Carolina had a very full udder and was signaling she was up next. Shortly after midnight, she delivered Sawfish Kahlua (doe) and Sawfish Jagermeister (buck). These two will have to be DNA’d because Carolina was exposed to two of our bucks. Kahlua is a deep brown/chocolate color with tan markings and Jagermeister is black with tan markings. Kahlua will be retained at this time.

We got less than 4 hours of sleep last night and we were hoping to have an easy evening to recover. Lucky 4-Leaf E Red Hot Chili had other plans. She decided to kid in the middle of the afternoon and provided 2 bucks, Sawfish Porter and Sawfish Stout. With 3 of the 7 does having kidded, our count is 2 doelings, 5 bucklings. I would write more, but it’s time to feed baby goats again.
